Zephyr Aircraft Engines Inc. doors opened June 9, 1992 at the Zephyrhills Florida Municipal Airport in the location of predecessors Zephyr Aviation and Zephyr Engines Service operated by the Porter family for over 25 years. We rather quickly achieved our goals of size and quality. Our "do it right" philosophy has worked well in preventing "having to do it again" and established our enviable reputation. While we offer one of the best and simplest warranties in the business customers seldom get to use it. Our great service and high quality make for very satisfied customers. With engines being our only business, and doing only two or three each week, we have adequate time to devote to each customer and his needs. The low production level is by our choice. Our physical plant and equipment would easily support double or more our rate of production. By maintaining our size we not only minimize overhead cost but allow for closer management oversight of each engine overhaul. Each customer represents a larger portion of our overall business that it does in a large volume operation so every customer is important to us. Our sales philosophy is low key. There is no "hard sell" or "smoke and mirrors." We answer all questions and fill in when they are not asked in order to educate customers in the many technicalities involved in the overhaul process so that they can make decisions regarding their engine needs that are right for their particular situation.
Our engine overhauls are done not only to factory new tolerances but to the high test standards possible within economic practicality. Parts replacement policy exceeds the factories requirements. Reject criteria in areas not requiring 100% replacement or rework such as crankcase fretting, gear wear and through bolt replacement are among the most stringent in the industry. As in the industry standard each engine is assembled by one mechanic. The two engine assembling mechanic will install the engine on the test stand and perform the test runs. Alternatively that is done by an I.A. with 21 plus years experience.
Customers are always welcome at our facility. If practical we encourage a visit as part of the decision making process. We are happy to have you present for the teardown or at any time during the overhaul process.
You are provided with a complete list of all reworked parts installed in your engine as well as all of the work orders and certification form vendor repairs or overhauls of such items as crankcases, crankshafts and fuel systems. A complete list of the current compliance status of all airworthiness directives is included.
Zephyr Aircraft Engines Inc. is an F.A.A. Approved Repair Station V14R597M holding P-1 certification for Overhaul of Lycoming and Continental horizontally opposed aircraft engines up to 400 HP. We are held to the higher standard of FAR Part 145 which requires operation in accordance with an FAA approved manual which specifies a system under which we must perform everything from receiving parts, engines, inspection, quality control, record keeping and return service of products repaired or maintained. This puts the operation under constant scrutiny of the FAA.
